Transistor broken off - is it safe to plug the card in the PCI slot?
Dear Balint,

I was changing my CPU cooler the other day when the old one accidentally fell down on the Quartet and a transistor (or resistor - I'm a rookie when it comes to these things) got broken off. I have not plugged the Quartet in the motherboard to be on the safe side since I have no idea what the transistor is responsible for.

I have yet to find a trustworthy service center of some sorts (I believe there are no Infrasonic certified centers where I live) to solder the transistor back. Frankly, I'm reluctant to give the matter in the hands of specialists of questionable character. As for myself, I've already mentioned that I'm a rookie at electronics.

So my question is as follows. Each transistor is marked with a code on the PCB. If I provide the code of the transistor that got broken off, will you be able to tell me whether it's still possible and safe to use the Quartet in the motherboard's PCI slot? If yes, feel free to use my personal e-mail indicated above if you wish.

I understand I messed up big time, but right now I have nowhere else to go.

P.S. I think I figured out the microphone affair I wrote about in my previous support ticket, but thanks nonetheless.

Dear Simon,

Yes please, if you could tell me the component ID, I'd be more than happy to help you. A photo could be great as well. Please feel free to contact me directly at support@simsaudio.com in case you prefer emails. Thank you. Also I'm glad to hear, that the microphone issue has been resolved.
This message has been sent to you by email too.

Best Regards,

Dear Balint,

Just in case, to let you know, a couple of days ago I replied via e-mail to the address you indicated above along with pictures. Thanks a lot for the help.

Dear Simon,

Thank you for your kind patience.
C139 is a simple 10nF bypass capacitor responsible for some internal noise decoupling.
The lack of this cap or its malfunction is highly unlikely to cause BSOD, especially resulting complete boot failure.
Please clean the PCI connector and the slot with special care and see if it helps.
If it does not resolve the BSOD, could you send me the memory minidumps? Those are located at C:|Windows|Minidump
Thank you for your co-operation in advance.

Best Regards,
SIMS Corp.
